About the Forums

These climbing forums are hosted on UKClimbing. There are 15 forums covering a variety of different topics - read Forum Descriptions for more details. Anyone is free to post to the threads on the various forums but we strongly recommend that everyone registers as a user, to give access to the full range of features available on the site.

Becoming a Registered User

To become a registered user, please enter your chosen user name, your preferred email address and a password. We will immediately create an account for you, and send you a confirmation email with a single click link in it to activate your registration. You will then have full access to the forums, photo galleries and other parts of the site.

You can leave the password blank if you'd like us to suggest a safe password

You can set your password to be anything you like, between 5 and 15 letters long, and we'll also email you a copy of your password in case you forget it. Remember that unless you move between different computers you should only need to enter your password the once - your web browser will remember that you are logged in.

TIP: don't keep the same password for other websites you use - especially for important sites like online banking!

If you are having difficulty registering then take a look at our Help Page.

What are the benefits of being a Registered User?

Being a Registered User isn't just for the 'regulars' who post to the forums every day of the week: even if you only read and never post, it is still worth registering.

Remember that you don't need to use your real name when you register, and your email address will always be kept hidden.

  • Post as a registered user. Registered user names are shown in bold, and as well as letting readers of the forums know it is really you, and not someone pretending to be you, you can also have a link from each of your posts to your User Profile.
  • Setup your favourite forum preferences. Create a personalised Forums Latest page with only messages from forums that you are interested in.
  • Keep track of new and old messages. Each time you come back, you can choose to be shown only messages that are new since your last visit. With over 1,500 new posts every day, this feature makes browsing the forums much faster and downloads quicker.
  • Create your own User Profile. Tell the world about your likes, dislikes, favourite routes, etc. Put in as much, or as little detail as you want.
  • Create your own Photo Gallery. Upload your climbing photos for everyone to see. You also have the option of allowing people to leave comments about your photos.
  • Give yourself better privacy. As a registered user, you will not have your computer's IP address listed next to your postings, and your email address is safely hidden which stops spam bots from sending you junk email. You can also set an option so that you appear as 'Hidden' on the list of users currently online, and even choose not to accept email from other users on the site.
  • Access all parts of the site. Registered users have full access to all features on the site, including full size versions of all the photos on the site, and the vast database of old forum messages.

These forums are paid for by banner advertising. The number of registered users on the site is the main figure that potential advertisers look at - so the more people using the site, the more advertising revenue we can spend on making the site even bigger and better.

Are the Forums moderated?

These forums are moderated by Alan James, Charles Arthur, Nick Smith, Tom Briggs, Jonathan Lagoe and Andy Hyslop. Our aim is to keep up the general standard of the forums by following the Posting Guidelines. We don't want to stifle good debate and consequently you may well encounter forthright opinions. If you come across anything which you object to then please use the Report Abuse page.
